My Story

How did I get here?

Since I was a young teen, my dream was to become a dentist who inspired others.  I later realized that in order to make that happen, I would need to create a dental clinic that offered much more than the average dental experience. It would have be an experience that exceeds expectations and leaves the patient with so much more.

The goal was to set a new high bar in modern dentistry and help change public perceptions of dentistry. Best of all, it would inspire more people to care about their oral health with an ‘education-first', and luxury service, approach. That is why I focused my education on creating beautiful, confident smiles using cosmetic dentistry and anxiety-free patient care.

To do this, I wanted to make sure the clinic was modern with digital technology, a caring team, and even sensory-friendly. By being multidisciplinary, I could offer a wide range of smile and reconstructive services.

Then, in 2014, after 13 years of practice, I was suddenly 'asked to leave’ my group practice. Builing a from-scratch practice, while still practicing and being a mom of two small kids, was going to be my biggest hurdle yet!

In addition to the planning and construction obstacles I faced, I also realized that no one knew who I was as a dentist in my community. Most people in the area had only ever heard of my group practice but not my professional name.  Unfortunately, I had been in a group practice with little marketing or branding and the type of practice I wanted to build was a foreign concept to many.  I felt the need to market myself and my clinic, so the brand became Peggy Bown Dentistry.

To brand effectively, I knew I had to create an online social presence, and so began my early days of social media, website building, and learning to create content on multiple platforms.

Looking back, I realized I knew that dentistry could be so much more for both patients and the dental team as a whole. I had a childhood dream of becoming a dentist who surprised and wowed her patients and now I was going to make that a reality!

Despite, the transitional period of a new team and a new clinic, I made time to learn more about marketing and branding, AND took a ton of other courses on clinical topics like Invisalign, restorative and cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, and Digital Smile Design. Quickly, my hard work paid off as I became Canada’s first DSD Master in 2017 and President of the Toronto Gallerite Study Club that same year.

I was unstoppable and excited as I began giving lectures across Canada on how digital workflows and marketing was transforming my practice.  By 2018, I had not only lectured in Canada but even made my way to the Wynn in Las Vegas!

A major piece of my success was also my fearlessness to invest in the best technology, no matter what the cost.  Some of the tech, like the iTero Element Scanner, was even purchased before I ordered my dental chairs!  This has been a game changer on so many levels including the team engagement, practice efficiency, diagnostics, communication, and most importantly, the patient experience.

The truth is, technology and the patient experience has never been more important in a post-pandemic world, as demand for a more modern, safe and convenient approach to dental care, has sky-rocketed since 2020.

Using advanced  training in Invisalign, Digital Smile Design, Occlusion, Dental Implants, and Cosmetic Dentistry, I am proud to say that my clinic, my team, and I have achieved incredible success even during a pandemic.  It gives me goosebumps to think about it and even more to know that I get to share what I know with you and help you avoid the mistakes I have made.

Accomplishing all of this wasn’t always easy, and many times I felt stress and overwhelm. However, I kept going, and now know what is possible as a digital modern dentist, including the struggles it can entail.

I have continued to lecture nationally and internationally and have served as an Align Faculty Member since 2019. Since then, I have lead the Canadian GP ‘Reopen Stronger’ Series,  presented at the Align Global Faculty Meeting and even shared my practice workflows at the GP NA Summit in Las Vegas.

I love to teach and share, and realize the massive demand for modern dentistry workflows and digital adoption.  I have discovered many doctors have NO IDEA where to start or what to do first, let alone HOW TO IMPLEMENT or MARKET themselves. Without the step-by-step 'how to' of implementation, we have not progressed as a profession nearly as quickly as the technology has evolved. This makes the gap ever wider but a unique opportunity for doctors like you to stand out.

With feedback from lecture attendees and daily DM’s, I realize how exciting it is to help these doctors who want and need my help, discover how to be more modern.
